Scorching lies by C.M Nyx | A Book Review

***This is a review of an ARC sample in exchange for an honest review***

This book Scorching Lies was a hype among some groups on booktok and all were talking good things about this book. I applied to the arc reading and finally got the book and I doved in head first in this story. This is the debut book written by C.M. Nyx. This book is the first in the series and it started out well I would say. Here is a brief description of this book on Goodreads;

I had everything, a family, safety, comfort, I was the heiress to my fathers empire, but that all came burning down, leaving me scarred and alone.

If that wasn't enough, the lies started coming to the surface.

The betrayal blindsided me and I was left broken and lying on the ground of my own personal hell. My enemies were now lined up, waiting for the chance to make me bleed. My former friends had their hands wrapped around my throat, trying to snuff out the last of my family's bloodline, all for revenge.

Ryker was the most vicious of them all. He wanted to make me hurt, to make me scream, to watch me burn. I just hope I can prove my family's innocence before he takes away every piece of me. I may not be his princess anymore, but I'll bleed to become his queen.

MY REVIEW
So, the book basically surrounds two main characters who were really close some time ago and something happened some time ago leading to the death of her best friend and an important family member of MMC. Later it was found that the family of FMC was involved. Her Father is currently in Jail because of this and she is now the sole heiress of all property. She has enemies apart from the MMC family. Someone is stalking her and leaving threatening messages and claiming she is his and stuff...You get the idea.

The plot is pretty strong in terms of story line but I have some issues with this. the chemistry between FMC and MMC is nonexistent...I mean I felt like this. it felt like...I don't know if it was all fluff... there was no deeper connection or anything or why the MMC is behaving hot and cold with MMC....well we know why he is doing this but I am feeling something is missing. There should be more between them not just mindblowing hoo haa (you know what I mean).

To be honest I lost interest in the MMC and FMC story and how their romance was unfolding I was more engrossed in the story of the stalker and the mystery behind the whole scenario of FMC's father in Jail. It was all very mysterious 😅. The author left no clues like what was happening, what happened, and who was involved only leaving cryptic dialogues and stuff. I think it's pretty clever of the Author. I was engrossed and turned page after page to find out even a little something about what why and where. And the book ENDED!!!!. There was a massive event happened at the end of the book and I was like what the what.!!!!!!!!

When I started reading the book it was boring and felt stupid and I almost DNF'ed it but I gave it a chance and by the end of the book I liked it. I want to know more and I want the next book now lol!!!. I would have given it 3 stars but the ending was something so 4 stars from me. i am sensing the next books will be pretty amazing.

A Critical Lens on 'Hunting Adeline' by H.D. Carlton: Exploring the Disturbing Themes | A Review

I kept delaying writing the review because I had to remember it and didn't want to do that. This 2nd book of Cat and Mouse duet is the story of a human trafficking survivor. This book is a huge  TRIGGER WARNING . Kindly proceed with caution. I even got traumatized after reading it. So to explain the synopsis; Adeline (the main character) got kidnapped at the end of the first book and sold to some people who groomed her for some very rich and powerful clients.  Almost half of the book is based on Adeline surviving the worst situations possible for a woman. Adeline had one advantage someone was fervently searching for her, and eventually, Zade managed to rescue her after four agonizing months. The scene when Zade finds her and she just could not believe it. She crumbled to her knees thinking she was hallucinating. After Zade brings her home she struggles so hard to process her trauma. She learns to fight to take control of her life. She gets close to her mother. She hates h...

'The Never King' by Nikki St. Crowe | A Review

"The Never King" by  Nikki St. Crowe   is an incredibly absurd book. I mean, while reading it, I found myself perplexed, cringing, and wondering what on earth I was actually reading. These rollercoaster emotions I experienced throughout the book. The story revolves around Peter Pan and the Lost Boys, with Winnie, a member of the Darling family line, whose mother is clearly mentally unstable. Her mother's bizarre and neglectful behavior towards her is maddening. When Winnie turns 18, her mother's insanity escalates as she believes Peter Pan is coming to kidnap Winnie, and indeed, he does just that. He takes her to Neverland, where he inexplicably chains her to a bed and watches over her while she's unconscious. The frequent mention of Winnie being different from other Darlings without a clear explanation becomes rather tiresome. Meanwhile, Peter's shadow is lost, causing Neverland to wither slowly. So his main goal is to find his shadow and secure his power o...
